Samsung Galaxy Watch users might get a surprise with the next update. Instead of the usual update to One UI 7 Watch, Samsung is planning to skip it and release One UI 8 Watch directly to the Galaxy Watch. This would be the first time the company has skipped a version for its smartwatches.
Currently, Galaxy Watches run on One UI 6 Watch software, which is based on Wear OS 5. The next update should have been One UI 7, based on Wear OS 5.1. However, information via X user IposDev suggests that Samsung will jump directly to One UI 8.
The main reason behind skipping the One UI 7 Watch seems to be that Samsung wants to keep its smartwatch software in line with its smartphone software. One UI 8, based on Android 16, is expected to roll out for Samsung phones in the coming months.
One UI 8
Samsung may start beta testing One UI 8 as early as next month, with a full release planned for August or September. By skipping One UI 7, Samsung can make sure the software on both its Galaxy Watches and Galaxy Phones is in sync.
If you’ve been waiting for Wear OS 5.1 (based on Android 15), it looks like you may have to wait longer. The update could be held off until One UI 8 Watch is ready, possibly alongside the Galaxy Watch 8 series in July.
One UI 8 is expected to be based on Wear OS 6, which will be part of Android 16. Along with the software update, Samsung is also expected to introduce a new design and better health features for the Galaxy Watch to make the wait even more exciting for users.
