Samsung Cloud app has marked an end of support for Galaxy devices running Android 8 (Oreo) and older Android-based Samsung Experience operating system.
The company is sending this official notice to cloud users with change in services policies for older phones that have already exhausted software support years ago.
As of May 2025, Galaxy devices running Android 8-based software will no longer receive new Cloud app updates. Though the Cloud app will be available for deprecated OS versions, users may face random service errors while missing the latest features and improvements. In that case, you will be required to upgrade to Android 9 (Pie), or One UI device to access a seamless cloud experience.
Google released Android Oreo in 2017, which accounts more than 7 years as of 2025. Throughout this time, both Google and Samsung have advanced application development APIs and design schemes that will no longer be available for older phones. It makes sense for Samsung to end Cloud app support for Android 8 or previous OS version phones.
Last month, Samsung Members app removed Android 7 (Nougat OS) and older Galaxy devices support.
Samsung Cloud is a pre-installed service on Galaxy smartphones and other touch screen devices that helps you back up media, files, phone’s settings and app data. Once created, a Samsung account enables you to access this backup any time from anywhere via online access. The Cloud service facilities multiple device backup, and you can choose, which device you want to restore from the cloud server.
