Sailesh C. Mehta brings with him over 40 years of industry experience, having earlier served as the Chairman of FAI’s Western Region for more than five years.
The Fertiliser Association of India (FAI), the apex body representing the country’s public, private, and joint-sector fertiliser companies, has elected Sailesh C. Mehta, Chairman & Managing Director of Deepak Fertilisers and Petrochemicals Corporation Ltd. and Mahadhan AgriTech Ltd., as its new Chairman.
Mehta brings with him over 40 years of industry experience, having previously served as the Chairman of FAI’s Western Region for more than five years. Under his leadership, Deepak Fertilisers has emerged as a key player in India’s agri-inputs sector, with a strong focus on innovation and farmer-centric solutions.
Accepting the position, Mehta remarked, “India’s transformation from a food-deficient nation to a global agri-exporter is a phenomenal journey, and the fertiliser industry has been a cornerstone of that success.” He emphasized the need to now pivot towards balanced and nutrient-efficient fertilisers that promote sustainable agricultural growth.
The FAI noted that, over the last two decades, the fertiliser industry has contributed to a 60% increase in agricultural output and a 40% rise in horticultural production. With globally benchmarked operational efficiency, the sector continues to play a vital role in ensuring the timely and effective delivery of subsidised fertilisers to millions of farmers across India.
Mehta concluded, “I feel privileged to serve as a bridge between the government, industry, and our farmers, working together to elevate Indian farm productivity on the global map.”
His appointment comes at a crucial time, as the fertiliser industry increasingly focuses on sustainability, innovation, and digital outreach to support India’s evolving agricultural landscape.
