Apple is reportedly working to make a major upgrade to wireless charging speed with its upcoming iPhone 17 series. With this new series, Apple may offer almost twice the speed of the current wireless charging speed.
According to information via MacRumors, the upcoming iPhones can support 45W MagSafe wireless charging, which is almost twice the current 25W speed. This would be a big step up for Apple, especially compared to Samsung’s latest phones like the Galaxy S25 Ultra, which only offer 15W wireless charging.
This upgrade is likely because Apple is adopting a new wireless charging standard called Qi 2.2. This version allows for faster charging and better alignment using magnets.
The leak came from Taiwan’s NCC certification site, where a new 45W MagSafe charger was spotted. It works with older iPhones like the iPhone 11 and iPhone 16, but the full 45W speed will likely only work with the iPhone 17 series, which supports Qi 2.2.

Apple has never mainly focused on charging speeds like other phone brands such as OnePlus or Xiaomi. But this time, a jump to 45W would mean much faster wireless charging, and that could be a big selling point for users.
Aside from this, Apple might skip the Plus variant in its upcoming series. The iPhone 17 lineup is expected to launch in September 2025 and is likely to include the iPhone 17, iPhone 17 Pro, iPhone 17 Pro Max, and the new iPhone 17 Air.
Similarly, Samsung is also planning to replace the current “Plus” model with a new, slimmer “Edge” model with the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S26 series next year. However, Galaxy S25 Edge sales will decide what Samsung does next with the Galaxy S26 series.
With S25 Edge unveiled, Galaxy S26 Edge already in Samsung’s pipeline; there’s bad news as well!
