Researchers at Canalys have published the smartphone market report for Q1 2025. It’s the third market report in a row, following Counterpoint Research and IDC. The report shows Samsung outpaced Apple in Q1 2025.
The Galaxy S25 series has helped Samsung beat Apple in Q1 2025 sales. The new flagships come with modern hardware and the latest software, giving them an edge over arch rivals from the iPhone 16 lineup in key markets.
All in all, the global smartphone market recorded a slight growth of 0.2%, with shipments reaching 296.9 million units. Samsung retained the smartphone market leader crown in the first quarter, driven by S25 and Galaxy A series sales.
Samsung shipped 60.5 million Galaxy phones in Q1 2025, reports Canalys. The company led the worldwide smartphone market, seizing 20% share. Samsung’s sales grew 1% YoY.
- The company did sell 60 million units in the first quarter of last year, while the market share was the same, 20%.
Apple was the runner-up in the Q1 2025 smartphone market, shipping 55 million iPhones and securing 19% market share. The company flagged a bold 13% YoY growth.
- In Q1 2024, Apple sold 48.7 million iPhones and recorded a 16% market share.
Xiaomi (41.8 million with 14% share), Vivo (22.9 million with 8% share) and Oppo (22.7 million with 8% share) retained their ranks as third, fourth and fifth biggest smartphone vendor, respectively.
